Explore the 3 different system configurations and their benefits below...

Lighthouse Grid-Tied Solar Electricity configuration

A grid-tied system with battery backup

The Lighthouse system configuration keeps your home lit even in the darkness of a regional blackout. You benefit further by reducing or eliminating your electric bill. This system also helps you do your part to reduce pollution and atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Proper sizing of your system is even more important because you'll rely on it to deliver the electricity you need when El Paso Electric can't. Since you'll still be tied to the grid all of your electricity needs will be met day and night. The batteries will only contribute when the grid fails as in a blackout.

At night and during the peak demands of your household, electricity from the power grid energizes your home. You'll always have the electricity you need when you want it, yet you'll still be doing your part to help the country and the environment.

Lighthouse configurations employ four primary devices to convert sunlight into electricity usable by your household and the El Paso Electric power grid and to supply the necessary power in case of a blackout.

1. The photovoltaic (solar) panels that convert sunlight into electricity. These panels are mounted to racks that we attach to your roof, to the ground, or to poles.

2. The inverter that converts the electricity generated by the solar panels into a form that matches the characteristics of the electricity supplied by El Paso Electric.

3. A set of sealed gel batteries that deliver the power to energize your home when the power grid fails.

4. The battery charger/controller that keeps the batteries fully charged and ready to power your home through a blackout.
